Meditations for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman. I’ve not yet read his 4,000 Weeks yet, but this work is a better match for the time frames I can carve out for reading, that is, snippets of 10 or so minutes for each “chapter.”
So far, its pithy bits of “productivity for finite beings” is at once reassuring and motivating.
For longer stretches of reading time, I’ve started Tech Agnostic by Greg Epstein. I’ve been troubled by the odd Biblical talk coming out of the tech sector, particularly since the AI boom. Then I read this and find it’s nothing more than just another religion being bootstrapped by atheist techbros, with them as the “chosen” and AI as God.
“If stories, prayers, and rites devoted to all-powerful divinities do not infuse our lives with meaning, or what theologians and scholars of religion call ‘the numinous,’ then something else does.” And that something is “Tech” with a capital T.
